Researcher Fernando Garbeloto from FADEUP wins Self-Care in Health Award (ACESA)
The Meu Educativo application, by Fernando Garbeloto, alumni and FADEUP researcher, won 1st place in the Lifestyle category of the ACESSA Self-Care in Health Award, promoted by the Acessa Group in partnership with Veja Saúde magazine.
Developed by a researcher from the Center for Research, Training, Innovation and Intervention in Sport (CIFI2D), Meu Educativo is a digital application, available for Android and IOS, created with the aim of “combating two great evils of the century, sedentary lifestyle and motor illiteracy”.
Launched in a beta version in February 2020, Meu Educativo was one of the 30 finalists for the Nestlé Prize for Healthy Children, the following year winning 3rd place in the São Paulo Forum Prize for Technological Innovation in Sport, Health and Leisure. The ACESSA Self-Care in Health Award, now won, arrives in the year of the launch of the final version of the application, which took place last February.
In the version for teachers, the award-winning tool allows monitoring of various aspects of students’ physical and motor skills, in addition to accessing libraries of educational content. On the other hand, in the version for guardians, monitoring of the students’ development process is provided, also providing information on the benefits of a physically active life for the whole family.
The application developed during the FADEUP alumni’s PhD is one of the tools used in the React Project, coordinated by Professor José Maia, from FADEUP. In addition to the React Project, Meu Educativo has been used in several schools in Brazil, the country where Fernando Garbeloto is from.
